| | We know that breastfeeding is best for both mother and child in terms of nutrition, health, and bonding. Despite this, many mothers still find establishing a new breastfeeding relationship challenging due to a loss of conventional wisdom and a lack of experienced role models in our communities.
Our trained Breastfeeding Educators provide private, in-home, breastfeeding education both prenatally and postpartum. Although breastfeeding instruction is available to you at any time, set yourself up for optimum breastfeeding success!
House of Doula recommends a prenatal breastfeeding class in the last 4 weeks of pregnancy with hands-on instruction and support during the first 2 weeks postpartum.
Breastfeeding topics generally include: nursing positions, signs of a good latch, nipple and breast care, pumping and milk storage, understanding the nursing relationship of supply and demand and how to know that your baby is getting enough milk. Topics are tailored to meet each family's individual needs. Other special topics could include: breastfeeding multiples, breastfeeding pre-term babies, or breastfeeding post cesarean birth.

Gain insight into the mind of your young child and learn effective strategies to support your child during his/her toddlerhood. Have your questions answered by an expert in early childhood development and education including strategies for tantrum prevention and management, getting your child to eat, nap challenges, and many insightful tips to ease life with a toddler at home. | Nurturing the Sibling Transition | Prepare Your Child for a New Brother or Sister at Home. This class is designed for parents with children under the age of 6 who are expecting a new baby and is recommended during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy. Through this class, parents will gain an understanding of common emotional responses to a new baby in the home as well as developmentally appropriate tools to help children process their emotions and promote sibling bonding and attachment. We will also discuss plans for older siblings during the birth. Class content is tailored the needs of class participants.

As a developmental consultant, Amanda draws upon her MA in Educational Psychology, experience as an early childhood educator with infants and children through age 5, and training in the world renowned Reggio Emilia Philosophy to Early Childhood Education. Amanda and is gifted in her ability to communicate with young children in a way that both meets their needs and dissipates tantrums or conflict.
Through her developmental consultation, Amanda will share this distinct insight into the mind of a young child with you. Consultations usually begin with a brief conversation over the phone or via email explaining the family's particular challenges and/or concerns. Amanda will assess her ability to address your concerns and either set up a face-to-face meeting with you or provide appropriate referrals. During your initial meeting, Amanda listens to your concerns, observes family dynamics and your child's behavior, and offers individualized strategies for the family. Follow-up via email or additional home visits are available as needed.
